Queer: FABNORMAL Queer Art Showcase 2019
After Cameron Lee and I curated the Spectra event in 2018, we wanted to take the experience a step further to organize a successive occasion centering queer visual artists and performances. Named after Cameron’s 2019 series, FABNORMAL, we were pleased to organize with some of ATL’s primo talent to celebrate a night of togetherness with more than 400 guests.

Held Friday November 15th at The Moxy Midtown, FABNORMAL had something for everyone, buzzing with warm energy start to finish. Guests enjoyed cocktails and board games in cozy nooks, others peeked at the array of photographs and paintings in the back lounge. Whether it was taking snaps at the digital booth or dancing to back-to-back bangers by DJ Ree De La Vega, Moxy and the team provided a perfect spot for whatever speed each guest felt best.
Cameron’s newest detailed collage portraits honor Atlanta’s varied neighborhoods with each model exuding punchy persona and bold attitude to match. The gorgeous works of Adelaide Tai, Chris Barker, Nick Khan and ARRRTADDICT all demonstrate the individualistic styles of visual work amongst Atlanta’s queer POC artists. The dazzling Brigitte Bidet hosted and paraded the party along, introducing electric drag performances by Molly Rimswell, Miss He and Tj Maxxx and vogueing sets by Titus and Sookie Sookie, a spectacle of queer energy and expression at its finest. Last but not least, raptress Yani Mo gave a soul-stirring set with her cool vocal stylings.
Between the raffle and guest donations, we were able to raise nearly $2,000 for the nonprofit TRANScending Barriers, supporting social, housing and medical justice for trans and gender non-conforming folx in Georgia, a cause deeply important to the community. We are thankful for sponsorship from Lexus and the partnering with Bill Kaelin Marketing, MAAP and Tito’s Handmade Vodka for this amazing night.
